Disaster Response

Disaster planning has become more important than ever as communities are facing unprecedented events that are often resulting in tragedy. Don’t miss this important track to guide you in your community preparedness, managing the response, engaging volunteers, working with the media, and ensuring your team is properly trained for fires. Eligible for CAWA, Humane Officer, and CACO CE Credits.

Field Services
As our industry becomes more progressive in supporting the animals and people in our communities, we are working to shift our perspectives and approach. This track will explore proactive and creative strategies to help pets return home, community-oriented field services, ethics training for officers, and improve safety for officers. Our final session includes some great technical training on crime scene photography to support effective prosecution.

Shelter Medicine
Don’t miss the latest in the continually evolving field of shelter medicine. This session is geared toward veterinarians, RVTs, and other veterinary staff and the content is eligible for CE credits. Learn about the “Four R’s,” the Five Freedom Model in action, building collaboration in the workplace, population management and daily rounds, and the practical uses and legalities around telemedicine.

Eligible for Veterinary CE Credits through Western University.

Thank you to Western University for sponsoring this track!

Sheltering & Outreach
You won’t want to miss this exciting track offering a variety of useful information for animal welfare leaders. Learn about the “Four Rs” from UC Davis, some behind-the-scenes look at common shelter evaluation findings, how to better engage volunteers, training shelter dogs for adoption, and how to up your game in applying for grants! Eligible for CAWA, Humane Officer, and CACO CE Credits.

Presented by CalAnimals (the California Animal Welfare Association), the ACC brings together all types of professionals who work in California’s shelters to share issues and experiences, network and learn from one another.

The ACC program is structured to allow each attendee to select educational sessions that are pertinent to their role in the animal shelter profession. Unique to the ACC, the conference offers four tracks: Disaster Response, Law Enforcement & Field Services, Shelter Medicine, and Sheltering & Outreach.

Attendees may choose from sessions which provide shelter-specific training, expose them to new theories and best management practices, or expand their understanding of community outreach and veterinary medical treatment.

ACC presenters are experts in their fields and attendees will leave each session with practical information on how to address their communities’ animal issues. The ACC is the one essential conference for animal shelter professionals, from intake specialists to veterinarians.
