Ground broken for city’s future animal shelter

While holding golden spaded shovels on April 26, city leaders and staff broke ground on Elk Grove’s $12.8 million animal shelter.

Located at Iron Rock and Union Park ways, in the vicinity of Grant Line Road and Highway 99, the 2.8-acre site will feature a 22,894-square-foot, single-story shelter.

“Today marks the start of a project we’ve all been (anticipating) for a while, a project that will serve our two-legged and four-legged residents,” he said.
