CalAnimals
EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

The CalAnimals Executive Leadership Program (CAELP) is a critically important initiative to build a pipeline of executives prepared to step into the CEO role. We extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors Michelson Found AnimalsMaddie's Fund, and Wallis Annenberg PetSpace for so generously making this program possible. With many seasoned leaders retiring, we are looking for individuals who are readying themselves to take on these roles in the near future that could use the knowledge and support of known leaders to help navigate their career path.

This program connects participants with the knowledge and support of known leaders to help them navigate their career path and the roadblocks they may encounter. This program is also open to CEOs/Directors who are new to their role and wish to improve their leadership skills and ensure their approach will yield the best outcomes.

CAELP participants leave with a strong foundation that will support their personal and professional development with resources, coaching, professional connections, and best practices shared in a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

The 2025 participants solidified their skills and knowledge for their journey in Animal Welfare Executive Leadership while focusing on 7 topic areas taught by experts and other industry leaders:

  • Professional Connections: Networking opportunities and industry experts.

  • People: Staff Development, workplace culture, DEI, and human resources best practices.

  • Community Engagement: How to best serve, interact with, and inspire your community.

  • Fundraising and Financial Management: Government vs. Non-Profit Shelters, Culture of Philanthropy, and maximizing budgets.

  • Leadership Skills: Preparing for your next role, conflict management, and communication.

  • Animal Welfare Best Practices: Disaster Preparedness and Community Resilence.

  • Animal Welfare Best Practices: Capacity for Care, Access to Care, and data-driven decision making.
