
Austin Browder
Executive Director, Siskiyou Humane Society
Austin Browder is the Executive Director of the Siskiyou Humane Society, where he has led the organization since May 2022. He oversees all aspects of a rural nonprofit shelter, including operations, staffing, budgeting, policy development, and community partnerships.
Under his leadership, the organization has strengthened its public presence by prioritizing transparency, responsiveness, and open communication with the community. Browder has focused on building trust through clearer public messaging, increased accessibility, and a more consistent connection between the shelter and the communities it serves.
Browder brings a practical, team-oriented leadership approach to animal welfare, supporting staff in delivering consistent, humane care and stepping in when needed on complex intake, behavior, and medical cases. Prior to his current role, he served as Sanctuary Manager at Rescue Ranch Inc., where he oversaw kennel operations, behavior programs, and volunteer engagement, and helped develop practical training systems for staff and adopters.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Botany from Humboldt State University and maintains active professional development in animal welfare leadership and behavior. He is an Associate Member of the International Association of Canine Professionals, Fear Free Shelters Certified, and an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
His work is grounded in a commitment to humane care, operational clarity, and building animal welfare systems that communities can trust.
